Rope Light Kit and Guide
Welcome to the World of Xim
Rope lighting is becoming increasingly popular in a wide array of applications. It is very versatile and can be used in many different ways. When used indoors it can be placed around cabinets, in dark closets, around doors and windows, on chair rail molding, or to light up dark stairways. When used outdoors it looks great on deck railings, to light up steps, or as architectural or landscape accent lighting.
They have found their place in commercial and residential applications. They are also used quite often during special events such as wedding receptions and corporate events.
Types
Typically these types of lights consist of half watt micro bulbs which are spaced about one inch apart inside a clear or colored flexible PVC resin tube. The bulbs are virtually maintenance free and never need to be replaced. Usually rated to last about 15 years when used four hours a day.
They are available in a variety of sizes, lengths, watts, and colors. The most common rope diameters you will find are 3/8” and 1/2”. The only difference between the two is the thickness of the jacket. The 1/2” rope lights will be more durable while the 3/8” lights will be easier to conceal. The right ones for you depend upon your application.
There is a wide array of styles. Some of your choices will include standard, mini 12V lights designed for vehicles, and chasing lights. Some of the newest are LED lights which offer improved energy efficiency and a longer life.
They are available in many different places. Some of the places to begin your search are hardware stores, electronics stores, and lighting retailers. The largest selection is most often found through online retailers. They can be sold in kits, coils, or molded into designs. The price you can expect to pay will depend on the length, style, and type of material used to make them.
One of the easiest ways to get them is by purchasing a kit which includes all the components you need to install them. The kits will usually include a specified length, a power cord connector, and either mounting screws or self-adhesive mounting tapes for securing your lights where you need them. You can find rope lights in lengths of up to 150 feet.
